Advanced IEPE Amplifiers: Optimized Signal Conditioning Solutions
IEPE amplifiers are required to provide the power for IEPE (Integrated Electronics Piezoelectric) accelerometers, microphones, force and other dynamic sensors are devices which include an internal circuit board providing amplification and signal conditioning for the piezoelectric charge signal.
One of the significant benefits of IEPE sensors has been the implementation of signal conditioning within many Data Acquisition (DAQ), vibration controller and other acquisition hardware. Often a software selected feature although it can also be via manual switch. In-built IEPE power means sensors can be directly connected to the DAQ without the need for external charge amplifiers, thus simplifying the measurement chain.
As with most situations there however exists a broad array of applications wherein measurement instrumentation hardware lacks inherent IEPE signal conditioning capabilities. Consequently, external provision of this supply becomes imperative, typically accompanied by the flexibility to fine-tune signal gain. Many of Kemo’s signal amplifiers include the facility to change the IEPE signal supply current from a standards 4mA up to 12mA giving user the ability to drive signals along much longer cables without signal distortion at higher frequencies.
